Connect gauges and check refrigerant pressures
Improper refrigerant charge, whether it is too low or too high, can cause your system to run inefficiently or even shut down and/or break. It is important to routinely check the charge to be sure you don’t have a leak. Also, we’ll ensure that your compressor isn’t working too hard which can lead to a costly repair.
Check the amp draw on your major electrical components
A blown run or start capacitor are also very common causes for a shut down system. This usually happens at the worst possible time and can often be avoided by routine checks of their functioning. We also check the amp draw on the outdoor fan and compressor as well as the indoor fan.
Flush the condensate line & check the air filter
Clogged condensate lines and dirty air filters air the most common, non-mechanical related, reasons why your system can shut down or run inefficiently. The air needs to be able to flow and the condensate and needs to be able to drain!
Wash the outdoor condenser coils
Your outdoor unit needs to be from of debris to allow the refrigerant lines to remove the heat from inside your home. Dirty outdoor coils can lead to wasted electricity and shorten the life of your costly compressor!
